- austin-cheney 5 hours agoI am extremely pessimistic on this. Hamas has accepted multiple ceasefire and peace plans so far. The last time this happened Israel bombed Qatar. There was an actual ceasefire this past spring that all parties that Israel intentionally broke.
The only real question here is what should the US do if Israel fails to agree to a complete elimination of hostilities within the week? At this point everything else is irrelevant.
[-]- eightforth 4 hours agoStrategically, it was a positive move for Israel to bomb the Hamas leadership in Qatar as they met to consider how to work a proposed ceasefire to their advantage. Keep in mind that the complete destruction of Hamas is in the best interests of both Israel and the Palestinian people, and the US of course isn't going to do anything to stop them on this course of action as it benefits them too.[-]
- austin-cheney 3 hours agoThe only thing the rest of the world sees is Israel trying to delay any peace process to further advance a genocide. Hamas was/is irrelevant, as well as the hostages, and peace is the primary obstacle.
This may not be true, but it is a nearly universally agreed perspective.
- asdefghyk 5 hours agoThe conditions that both parties agree to need to be finalized. Then the clock starts. Presently its reported Hamas wants to retain some arms ... via third party .... etc and other changes ....[-]
- austin-cheney 4 hours agoAfter observations of both parties conduct so far this year I really don’t believe any agreements or stipulations from Hamas are significant to peace. All that matters is if Israel agrees and is held accountable for violations.[-]
- asdefghyk 4 hours agoThe agreement wants Hamas completely gone ... otherwise they are like the hydra ... they will be back ....
The Hamas response statement was ambiguous, vague and did not address many aspects of the US-backed peace plan. SO considerable negotiation to happen yet
- asdefghyk 4 hours agoReading Hamas reply it says they do not want to disband either... Is my interpretation
- asdefghyk 6 hours agoThe conditions still need to be negotiated -So headline is misleading in my opinion. Hopefully conditions will be negotiated quickly - like within the next day or so ...
