- mna_ 1 hour ago"Inspired by Thatcher" is not something I'd ever want to hear. Ding, dong, the witch is dead.

I'm personally not a fan of her policies. Tax cuts won't solve the fact that Japan still has one of the highest debt to GDP in the world, and will only make the Yen weaker in the global economy.
Sometimes, you have to rip off the band-aid (Low taxes) in order to get better (stronger Yen).

Margaret destroyed the UK and slashed the veins of North UK and Scotland.
[-]- FridayoLeary 10 hours agoThe industries she killed were zombies on life support. The attitude of the trade unions hastened the inevitable as they discovered that finally there was a prime minister who wouldn't capitulate to them. If you think she was brutal just ask the average guy what they think of the rail unions today. They are probably the most successful possible argument in favour of conservatism. Almost all my sympathy and support for trade unions has been effectively wiped out by them. And i do believe they historically had some success in bringing about positive change.
The economic situation in parts of scotland and the north is pretty dismal, but make no mistake that would have been the fate of the whole of the UK if not for Thatcher. Just look at the depressing state of the economy today after decades of unambitious rudderless governance with absolutely no prospect of improvement.
[-]- jleyank 10 hours agoMost of the last 20 years in the uk have been “her descendants” and the anti-Europe crowd. You have to spread the money around if you want to have a consumer economy.[-]
- FridayoLeary 9 hours agoyou have to make money in order to spread it around. Something which Thatcher correctly observed government is fundamentally terrible at doing.[-]
